MAMA is somewhat unique among professional organizations in serving both museums and archives. We will lean into that diversity with the Kansas City Area Archivists and examine the intersection of museums and archives—what they have in common, how they are different, how they work together, and successful projects that take advantage of that intersection. The theme also presents an opportunity to consider other intersections such as how public policy and discourse, politics, and current events affect museums and archives; institutional and community relationships, partnerships, and collaborations as places of intersection; and how museums and archives each are addressing diversity, access, and inclusion within their respective contexts.

Includes the reception on Thursday, October 26, and lunches on Friday and Saturday, October 27-28.

The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum has graciously offered to host the meeting. After a major renovation that added a new museum entrance and permanent exhibition, the museum reopened in July 2021. This is your chance to see the updates, which incorporated more technology and archival materials in the exhibits. In addition to enjoying the meeting space, make plans to attend the Thursday tours and reception onsite. Admission is free during the conference with your badge.

Parking

Parking is free. If you put the official address of 500 W US Hwy 24 into GPS, it takes you to the back of the campus, far from the museum entrance. Instead, look for the two parking lots on the east side of the building, off North Pleasant St, between W. Mechanic Ave. and Independence Ave. or W. Moore St. (highlighted below).
